LET'S GO BIRDING TOGETHER!

March

Join Lane County Queer Birders for an early spring outing at Fern Ridge Wildlife Area (Royal Ave access) on Saturday, March 21 at 8:30 AM!

We’ll explore about 1.5 miles of mostly flat rocky/gravel trail through wetlands and open water habitats. This time of year often brings a mix of lingering winter birds and the first wave of migrants, so there’s always something new to watch for.

Out on the marsh we might see dabbling ducks like Northern Pintails, Green-winged Teals, and American Wigeons, along with wading birds such as Great Blue Heron and Great Egret. Keep an eye on the sky for Northern Harriers, and listen to the chatter of Marsh Wrens, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Song Sparrows.

The trail is firm and mostly level, though some sections may be uneven or a little muddy—it is spring after all! There are no benches along the route until the wildlife viewing blind about halfway through the walk. Parking and restrooms are available at the trailhead.

Bring binoculars if you have them, dress for the weather, and come enjoy a morning of birding and community. All experience levels are welcome, and this event is open to members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and chosen allies.
